The main stage brings the headliners. But the beating heart of Afro Nation is the Piano People Stage — the amapiano cathedral, where the log drum runs from afternoon into the night, and where names like Uncle Waffles, the Scorpion Kings and Vigro Deep have turned a South African sound into a global one.
Add the Afrotronic Stage for the afro-house heads, and a Lit Stage that swings between dancehall, R&B and rap. Whatever you came for, it is playing somewhere on that beach.
WHAT IS AFRO NATION?
The biggest Afrobeats festival on the planet, and it happens on a beach
Afro Nation started in 2019 in Portimão and has become the annual meeting point of the global African diaspora. Three days, several stages, 40,000 people, and a whole city that lives to the rhythm of the festival for a week.
It is not a festival you watch. It is one you live — feet in the sand, from the first afternoon set to the last track at sunrise.

THE LOOK
At Afro Nation, the outfit is part of the show
Nobody comes to Praia da Rocha in a plain t-shirt. Crochet, mesh, wax prints, gold, headpieces, hand fans, sunglasses that cost more than the flight — the beach turns into a runway from the first afternoon.
Our advice: one look per festival day, plus one for the opening party and one for the closing party. Light fabrics for the sun, something over your shoulders for when the ocean wind picks up after dark. And shoes you can actually stand in for eight hours of sand.

GOOD TO KNOW
The festival is cashless
Bars, food and merch all run off your wristband. Top up online before you travel to get bonus credit, scan the wristband on site to check your balance, and claim back whatever you don't spend after the festival.
